The Montagne Sainte-Victoire overlooks the city of Aix-en-Provence, the town where the impressionist painter Paul Cézanne lived. The majestic limestone massif fascinated the artist who painted it repeatedly (87 times!).
It is a veritable symbol of Provence, and with the Sainte Baume and Mount Ventoux, it’s a major landmark in the region. It has different summits lined up along its extended summit ridge: the Croix de Provence and the Pic des Mouches with its orientation table (1010 m) are the most famous ones.
Hike along the Imoucha trail departing from barrage de Bimont up to the top of the mountain and the Croix de Provence. The hike is about 4 hours, round trip and is about medium difficulty.
Visit the nice village of Vauvenargus on the North of the Sainte Victoire. Pablo Picasso bougt a small castle there and is buried nearby.
